Although I am very involved in the online trading community, especially in the areas of Rush and Dream Theater, my favorite way of doing a trade is still the old fashioned way, by mail. However, with this method also comes the greatest risk, and so here are a few simple guidelines I would like you to follow when we trade. Also provided is simple guide on how to do a 2:1. So far I have not had to make a bad traders page, and my hope in creating this specific rules section is that I will never have to. So far every single one of my trades has been enjoyable, and I hope it stays that way.
#1 Rule I do not want any MP3's, or MP3 sourced shows. I also do not want shows in any other lossy formats, or shows that are sourced from other lossy formats.
Media Types I use top quality media when I trade, and do not expect junk in return. Right now, and most of the time in general I use CD's and DVD's direct from Taiyo Yuden. I will not accept the following brand discs: BASF, Imation, Memorex, Maxell or PNY.
I can read both DVD+R's and DVD-R's, but the blanks I have are only DVD+R. If you do not have a DVD drive that can read DVD+R discs, then please do not do a video trade or Data Disc trade.
Burning Discs Always burn disc at once. Nobody wants two second gaps in a live show. I will expect any discs not burned disc at once be replaced.
Never use "On the Fly" recording. Whether you do it manually, or have a program that does it automatically, always copy files to the hard drive before burning.
General Trading Rules I set up regular trades on a 1:1 basis. If you are sending me 5 CD's I will send you 5 CD's. If I'm sending you 3 DVD's your sending me 3 DVD's.
If a CD or DVD is flawed when I receive it, I expect a replacement be sent, and I will do the same.
Good communication is appreciated. Please inform me of when you send your stuff out, when you get my stuff in, and keep me posted with any other updates.
Never write on discs. Please either right on the sleeves, or include a note inside the sleeves to note what discs are what.
Shipping If you are contacting me for a trade for the first time, you will send first. I will receive your package, make sure everything is okay, and then put your package in the mail.
Always used a bubble mailer when shipping discs.
Never ship discs in a jewel case. Not only will they take up extra space, and increase weight and thus shipping, jewel cases are prone to being broken inside bubble mailers.
Always use individual or double sleeves to ship discs. If you put two discs inside a single sleeve, use a piece of paper or cloth between the two discs.
Regarding Shows With Restrictions Including, but not limited to...
(Not For Trade) - As the title suggests, I will not trade these shows. (Not For Trade Until ____-__-__) - You can set-up a trade for these shows, however your package will not go out until the date specified. (GDT) - GDT shows are not to be traded electronically. This means no torrenting, no P2P programs, and no direct connect... basically anything involving a modem.
(Do Not Torrent) - Pretty self explanatory.
Data DVD Trades For online traders out there, this is my preferred way of doing mail trades. Just like anything else this is done on a 1:1 disc basis.
Shows should be in SHN, FLAC, or APE format, and should always include MD5's. Also if you have it art and info files are greatly appreciated.
2:1 Trades Unless otherwise noted on the main page, I am always happy to do 2:1 trades for beginning traders, and for people who have nothing that interests me.
How to do it: First email me aboot the shows you would like, also noted that you want to do a 2:1. I will email you back if I'm able to do it (which I usually am) and give you my address. You will basically then be getting two packages ready for shipping. The inside package, a bubble mailer, you will address from me, to you, as it is the package that will be making it's way back to you. The outside package, usually a large Tyvek Envelope will be addressed from you, to me. You will need twice the discs that you are planning to get back (hence the name 2:1). When you get to the post office, give them the inside bubble mailer, with only half the discs inside (the ones that will be coming back to you) and have them weigh it, and MAKE SURE THEY PUT STAMPS ON IT!!! They can not put a regular sticker on it as they are dated and I wouldn't be able to use it. Then, put the other discs inside the bubble mailer, and put the unsealed bubble mailer inside the envelope, and seal the envelope and send it on it's way. If all is done correctly I should receive the package, be able to burn the discs, and drop the bubble mailer with correct postage in my mail box for the mail man to pick up. |
