LeeGeddy
(Audio - 6, Video - 7)
The newly obtained 1st Gen SVHS was a good find for this release. The
show was filmed by a guy who filmed many bands that came through Montreal in
the '80s. The 1st gen SVHS was taken directly from his Betamax master tape
in 2002. The sound of the audio track is decent, with some punch in the
mid/bass region, but the fidelity is definitely lacking. The video has some
great clarity for such an old tape. You can see the boys quite clearly and
the camera movement is minimal. There is a constant video hiss that's not
too distracting, but definitely noticeable. I also wanted to mentioned that
Geddy's voice seems a bit too 'nasal' in some songs. Although the pitch was
checked by few folks and was determined to be fine, I can't get over Geddy's
voice sounding too high.
There was a correction to the date of the show from April 9th to 8th. On
a live recording of the 9th show, Geddy clearly states that it's the 2nd
night. The filmer provided the initial information for this show, but after
20years, failed memory gets the best of us. Sorry for the mixup. Released
as DR's 2003 Christmas Release with Visual Chemistry.

The Digital Dan
(Audio - 6, Video - 7)
There is a mistake on the DVD where the date is displayed as April 9th
and not the correct date of April 8th. Unfortunately, the DVD is finished,
so no chance for a redo. I generally kept the source files around just long
enough to get an "OK" from those previewing it. A disc like this in raw file
format occupies between 30-35 gig of hard drive space. I'm always short on
space, so as soon as I can reclaim it, I do. This mistake is mine alone.
When I get to working on a project like this I'm usually more concerned with
the overall production. That includes remastering the audio, tweaking the
video, creating menu's, and design work. I tend to lose focus on matters of
spelling or informational accuracy. Trust me, I've had my ass handed to me
more than a few times because of this "tunnel vision". I have people looking
for spelling mistakes and bad links. However, I forgot to pay attention to
Geddy's comments and the date. (2003-11-30)
