The Digital Dan
(Audio - 9)
Another great show from the latter part of the Hemispheres show. This
audience source was taken from the master cassette and it is almost
impossible to tell this is an audience source! It is absolutely crystal
clear, better sounding than some of the Rush soundboards out there. The
source is clear enough that you can hear the buzz from the amplifiers during
the song breaks. For a 22 year old source, this is nothing short of a
miracle. The sound is actually a bit better than Work of Gifted Hands -
Platinum Edition. The boys play with an incredible amount of energy and
enthusiasm this night displaying that rare and elusive balance between pure
raw power and expert musicianship. Geddy is definitely having fun tonight as
often reciprocates the fans cheering. While there are some great soundboards
from this tour, none have quite the energy and raw excitement of the Oslo
show. This is one of those "must have" shows, get your hands on a copy of
this one and you will not be disappointed. Once again, many sincere thanks
to Perb and friend for making this show available to all Rush fans. Be sure
to read the liner notes in the artwork for a better explanation of the show
from the taper himself. As with all Digital Reproductions recordings, it's
only available via free trade and never for sale. Just visit the trading
links section to find people that will gladly trade this recording for free.
Taper's Notes
I have finally had the time to check up on the date for the show. It is
now confirmed, both from a cut-out of the ad for the concert from the
norwegian newspaper Dagbladet that is glued to the Hemispheres album that
Carl Erik owns, and from the girl who works at the archives at Dagbladet in
Oslo, that the show was held in Chateau Neuf Oslo on Thursday 24th of May
1979.

Let me start off by saying: this is one of my all-time favorite Rush
shows. A solid, high energy performance from the boys on one of their final
performances of the marathon "Hemispheres" tour. First off, it features the
first live version of "Discovery" I had ever heard, and it’s an amazing one
at that. The take of "A Farewell To Kings" will absolutely blow you away.
This is truly an incredible show.

This is a collection of some of the greatest organized noise that has
ever bombarded my ears! I simply cannot properly put into words how
phenomenal this bootleg is! This performance is probably the best ever. I've
never heard Geddy have so much fun in my life! The audience is really having
an amazing time as well. They say this is an audience tape, but I really
don't think so at all. I'd be willing to bet my left testicle (not the right
one though) that this is a soundboard. I give this 5 stars in sound although
it is not exactly what " A Right to Passage" is in the sound department.
There is simply not one damn thing wrong with this jaw dropping bootleg! How
amazing! What is there left to be said about it? Kill your Grandma, steal
pennies from children, I don't care what you have to do but get this
bootleg!!!!!

This is a really great sounding show, one of the best I've heard from the
time period. I've never heard the original version, but this platinum
edition is really fantastic. A great set list (Hemispheres live!) combined
with really great sound, this is a must have for any Rush fan. There is one
small problem: there is a cut in the Cygnus part of Hemispheres. However,
don't let that stop you from getting this great boot!
