( Under the spotlight ) The eerie guitar presence begins to take life, and the anticipation of the crowd begins to build for Matheos and Co, and special guest Mike Portnoy, as they ready themselves to take flight on a night to remember. ( Above the staring eyes ) Coming from their release Disconnected, One begins with the Fates Warning experience taking hold. I would have to say that the crowd was very into this show. Fates had no problem with audience vocal fill-ins tonight, as demonstrated towards the end of One. We then jump into one of my favorites next - A Pleasant Shade of Gray, Pt 3. The trudging prowess gets the mood going. A lot of their releases were represented quite well in this show. With Disconnected and APSoG introduced, we go into one from Parallels - Life In Still Water. Coming next is the introductions for the night where Mike Portnoy is introduced and Frank Aresti welcomed back. Enough of the talking, we go back into the jams. Simple Human comes to life and then Heal Me, from their most recent release, X. I would have to add, off topic, that Fates Warning has continued to grow musically as evident on their new release. It was nice to hear new material on this show. For the most part, the band keeps the high tempo going with several good picks. With a break needed, they bring out The Ivory Gate of Dreams, from their 1988 release, No Exit, and Another Perfect Day from X. The high-impact continues to the end of the show, and what kind of magic can these guys come up with to close an already intense show? ( After the fading lights ) OSI anyone? To hear this again just makes everything all the worth more while! Subtly, The New Math goes into effect, and once the crowd figures it out, they're ready for it. Matheos and Portnoy once again tearing it up in OSI fashion. One is not enough, so why not play the second portion of shutDOWN? ok. Overall, this was an incredible show, and is great to be able to hear this special performance take place. This is one that will not be forgotten anytime soon. ~SewerRat~
